I hold a PhD in Genetics and Molecular Biology and an MSc in Pharmacology from CINVESTAV, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Pharmacy, and Biology from Universidad Veracruzana. My professional experience encompasses academic research and teaching, the pharmaceutical industry, and clinical chemistry.
My research focuses on the discovery and development of therapeutic strategies for human diseases, particularly those associated with aging, neuroinflammation, neurodegeneration, cardiovascular risk, and the microbiota–gut–brain axis. My principal contributions have examined the effects and mechanisms of action of prebiotics, functional foods, and microbiota-derived metabolites on metabolism, inflammation, and cognition under neurodegenerative conditions. I have also contributed to the development and characterization of animal models of natural aging, investigated the metabolic effects of microbial monocarboxylates in brain cells, and studied risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease and medication-use patterns.
My methodological expertise includes experimental animal models, cell culture, histology, immunohistochemistry, chromatography, bioinformatics, quantitative imaging, molecular and cellular biology techniques, and statistical analysis. I have participated in teaching activities in pharmacology, neuroscience, genetics, cell and molecular biology, biophysics, chemistry, probability, and statistics. I also have experience in scientific peer review and the critical evaluation of manuscripts for academic journals.
My scholarly output includes thirteen publications—including original research articles, reviews, conference papers, and book chapters—as well as a patent, scientific presentations, experimental protocols presented at national and international conferences, and several academic awards. I am a member of the Society for Neuroscience and Mexico’s National System of Researchers.
Previously, I served as Coordinator of the Biomedical Engineering Program and as a full-time professor at Universidad Anáhuac, teaching Biophysics in the School of Medicine and Chemistry, Probability, and Statistics in the School of Engineering. I currently hold a postdoctoral position as a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Vienna, where I investigate the effects of microbiota-derived metabolites on cellular metabolism, senescence, inflammation, and neurovascular dysfunction.
I am committed to advancing my career in research, innovation, and higher education. I particularly value interdisciplinary collaboration, intellectually demanding projects, and the pursuit of ambitious scientific objectives.
