ZHANG JI, LIMEI

Born in Beijing, China, Limei Zhang is a Mexican neurophysiologist and Professor of Medicine at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). She holds MD, MSc, and PhD degrees from UNAM and completed postgraduate training at the University of Oxford, UK. She has served as a visiting professor at prestigious institutions, including the MRC Anatomical Neuropharmacology Unit and Department of Pharmacology of Oxford University UK, the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research (MPImF) in Heidelberg, Germany, Nankai University in Tianjin, China, the University of Castilla-La Mancha in Albacete, Spain, and both NIDA and NIMH of NIH USA. Dr. Zhang has been recognized with several awards, including Gabino Barrera Medal (UNAM, Best PhD Student, 1992), the IBRO Research Fellowship (2000–2001), the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Fellowship (2016–2017) at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIH), Sor Juana Inés de La Cruz recognition of the UNAM (2022), and the ALBA-Elsevier Brain Science Prize (2023–2024). She was elected to the Mexican Academy of Sciences in 2002. Dr. Zhang’s laboratory focuses on understanding how diverse neuropeptidergic systems modulate brain information processing and social behaviors, particularly during stress coping and across the lifespan.
