Francisco Javier Cano is a postdoctoral researcher at the Materials Research Institute (IIM) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and a member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers (SNII). He holds a PhD in Physics from Le Mans Université, France, and a PhD in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology from Cinvestav, Mexico, complemented by an MSc in Ceramic Engineering and a BSc in Environmental Engineering. His interdisciplinary research focuses on the design and understanding of advanced and sustainable nanomaterials for environmental applications, particularly water remediation through adsorption and photocatalysis. His work integrates experimental materials science, physicochemical characterization, and computational approaches to investigate carbon-based materials, metal oxides, hybrid nanostructures, and waste-derived functional materials.

Dr Cano has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and conference contributions in materials science, nanotechnology, and environmental remediation, and has developed international research collaborations across Mexico, France, Poland, and other countries. His scientific contributions have been recognized through distinctions including the Sustainability 2024 Carbon Neutrality Award. Alongside his research activities, he is actively involved in scientific publishing and academic service, serving as a Section Editor for Springer Nature’s Handbook of Nanomaterials and Nanocomposites for Energy and Environmental Applications and as Guest Editor of a Special Issue on sustainable nanomaterials for environmental remediation. He also regularly serves as a reviewer for leading international journals and as an evaluator of research proposals, reflecting his broader commitment to advancing sustainable materials science and environmental nanotechnology.
