Professor at the School of Engineering and Science of Tecnológico de Monterrey (ITESM) since 2016. Teaching in the Graduate Program in Nanotechnology and the Department of Science (Chemistry and Nanotechnology). Participated in the design of the overall curriculum and course contents for the Nanotechnology Engineering undergraduate program, launched in 2019 with a Competencies Based Education approach.
Visiting Professor at the Fundamental Chemistry Department and the Materials Science Graduate Program at UFPE (Recife, PE, BR) from 2012 to 2015.
My research interests include: Nanostructured Porous Materials and Biomass-Derived Porous Carbon. Carbon Nanotube (CNT) composites with conducting and engineering polymers, or with nanoparticles, as well as carbon-carbon composites. Chemical functionalization of CNT and other carbon nanoestructures. Synthesis of nanostructured materials including oxides, carbonates, and semiconducting quantum dots, particularly via green chemistry methods. Production of nitrogen-doped carbon nanomaterials. Research in bionanotechnology and biocompatibilty of nanomaterials. Studies of graphene nanoribbons (GNR) from exfoliation of multi-walled CNT.
Formerly, at IPICYT (San Luis Potosi, S.L.P., MX), as Professor, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Group, Advanced Materials Department, from 2005 to 2014.
B.Sc. (Chemistry, with honors) from ITESM (Monterrey, N.L., MX, 1995).
M.A. (Chemistry) from Rice University (Houston, TX, USA, 1999), Advisor: Prof. Richard E. Smalley.
Ph.D. (Chemistry, 2004), followed by a postdoctoral stay, under the direction of Prof. Enrique V. Barrera, Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science Department (now at the Materials Science and Nanoengineering Dept.), Rice University.
