Monica Montaño Reyes holds a Ph. Degree on Political Science (2009) at Istituto Italiano di Scienze Umane in
Florence, Italy. Her Thesis title was "The quality of politicians: comparative study of deputies in Italy, Spain, Mexico and
Argentina 2008-2012". And her Directors were: Leonardo Morlino and Co-director: Manuel Alcántara Sáez. Since 2013
she is full-time professor at the University of Guadalajara, Department of Politics. Since then, her research
interests are leadership, political elites, culture Political class, political careers and representation. Her last two
Research Stays were at Universitá degli studi di Firenze, Italy under the supervision of prof. Georgia Bulli, from
september 2024 to july 2025. And at the Universitá degli Studi di Perugia, Italy under the supervision of Silvia
Bolgherini, during June 2023. She was part of the Central Committee of the Mexican Political Science Association
(AMECIP) from 2021 to 2023. And since 2019 she is coordinator of the Research Group “Elites in America Latina” at the
Latin American Political Science Association (ALACIP). At the University of Guadalajara she is a coordinator of the
UdeG Electoral-Political Observatory since 2017 and she was part of the Governance Institute of the same University
from 2019-2024. In recent days she leads two main research projects: local political leaders in Mexico and electoral
behavior in Latin America. Her last book on political elites was edited with Tirant lo Blanch (2024) Trajectories and
professionalization of political elites: National and local cases in Latin America and her last article was published by
Perfiles Latinoamericanos (2025) Political Hotbeds and Politicizing Organizations of Mexican Legislators: 1997-2021.
