AGUILUZ IBARGUEN, MAYA VICTORIA

Maya Aguiluz-Ibargüen was born in Mexico City. She lived in San Pedro Sula y Tegucigalpa, in Honduras, more than ten years, and in La Paz, Bolivia, near four. Currently she spend most of her time in Mexico, and her time off in Pamplona, Spain. She forms part of the body of researchers of the Center of Interdisciplinary Studies in Sciences and Humanities (CEIICH) [www.ceiich.unam.mx] in the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) (Obtains her Doctorate in Sociology at this University in 2008). Is also national researcher (Level II) of the National System of Researchers (SNI) of the National Council on Science and Technology (CONACYT) of Mexico.

Currently Maya holds the position of head researcher (full time with tenure), and since May 2008 collaborates in the Research Program in Social Sciences and Literature in this Center. Within the UNAM, her teaching work developed since 2001 has included semester courses, seminars and conferences in the Doctoral and Master’s programs of the Postgraduate in Latin American studies. In the last ten years, she has been responsible for one of the basic seminars on “Culture and diversity in Latin America,” developing themes such as “imaginary spaces in the constitution of cities,” “the public memory in Latin American retrospective,” and "micro/macro perspectives on violence," among others.

Her fields of work are sociological discourse in modernity (classic and contemporary sociology), Latin American cultural studies, Body studies, Social memory and current debates on social theory and affect theories. Most recent lines of research has been focused on life/death cultural thresholds, biopolitics, and cultural and political frames of violence in Mexico.

Maya has carried out short stays abroad for formative motives and sabbatical time at Georgetown University (2009), Yale University (2013), New York University (2013), and Universidad Pública de Navarra (2014), in Spain. She also has participated in an academic visit term at Groningen University, Universidad de Deusto, and Göttingen University in the frame of the Erasmus Mundus Euroculture Master's Program (2010, and 2011). In her function as primary graduate thesis tutor, she has directed various Master’s and Doctoral's theses, as well as Thesis Boards for evaluating Doctoral, Master’s and undergraduate theses in the UNAM.

Maya Aguiluz-Ibargüen has been a guest participant in international Colloquiums and Congresses, and she is has been editor of thematic journal's issues of INTERdisciplina, in 2014 (Mexico, UNAM, : http://www.ceiich.unam.mx/0/53RevInt.php); Umbrales, in 2013(CIDES, La Paz, Bolivia http://www.ceiich.unam.mx/0/53RevInt.php), as well as editor of some collective publications, and author of two books.
