Graduated from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) as medical doctor, later specialized in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics at the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán (INCMNSZ). MSc specialized in Geriatrics at the University of Sherbrooke (Canada), PhD in Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Bordeaux, France.
He currently holds a position as Geriatrics professor and his main research interest is frailty in older adults and cognitive decline. Associate researcher at SEPIA (psychoépidemiologie du vieillissement et des maladies chroniques) at the 1219 Unit, INSERM (France). He is part of the Mexican National Researchers System (Sistema Nacional de Investigadores) and of the National Academy of Medicine (Academia Nacional de Medicina de México).
Head of the Geriatrics Department at the INCMNSZ, in Mexico City (2009-2022).
He is the Director of Education at the INCMNSZ (2023- ).
