REYES AGUERO, JUAN ANTONIO

Juan Antonio Reyes-Agüero (Mexico City, 1963), Biologist from the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo (School of Biology, 1987), Master in Sciences by the Colegio de Postgraduados (1992) and Doctor in Biological Sciences by UNAM (Faculty of Sciences, 2005). He has been a professor at four Mexican and one foreign higher education institutions (Fachhochshule Köln, Germany) and since 1997 he is professor-researcher at the UASLP Institute for Research in Desert Zones; Level I of National System of Researchers (2007-2025) and PRODEP Profile (2006-2027); His academic interest is research on ecology and management of renewable natural resources, particularly in the arid and semi-arid zones and especially with the genus Opuntia and Agave; He teaches Ecology in the Multidisciplinary Programs of Postgraduate in Environmental Sciences-UASLP and those of General Ecology and Biodiversity and evolution in Environmental Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering-UASLP; he has been director or co-director (52 students) and advisor (44) of thesis in the levels of bachelor's degree (17 direction or co-direction, 10 advised), master (34, 27) and doctorate (2, 7). His articles (as author or co-author) consist of three theses, 62 refereed articles, seven articles, three books and 16 chapters, which together have received 1922 citations. It has collected 2341 botanical specimens, 21.4% of which correspond to Opuntia.
