Fernando Carlos Gómez-Merino was born in Vega de Alatorre, Veracruz, Mexico in 1970. He got his BSc Degree in Agronomy with Honors by the University of Veracruz (Mexico) in 1995. At the College of Postgraduates in Agricultural Sciences (Mexico) he got his MSc Degree in Genetic Resources and Productivity in 1998 and in 2004 he got his Doctoral Degree (Doctor rerum naturalium) by the University of Potsdam in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology in Golm, Germany.
He has written 18 books, 25 book chapters and more than 330 articles related with crop production, plant nutrition, plant physiology, plant molecular biology, biotechnology and innovation.
