MAHLKNECHT, JURGEN

Dr. Jürgen Mahlknecht is an Associate Research Professor and the Head of the Climate and Sustainability Research Core at the School of Engineering and Sciences of Tecnologico de Monterrey, Mexico. He holds a PhD in hydrogeology from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (Austria), and his background is in environmental civil engineering. With 27 years of experience, Dr. Mahlknecht has dedicated his career to research, teaching, and consultancy. His research interests encompass isotope hydrology, hydrogeochemistry, groundwater contamination and remediation, sustainability in water resources management, environmental engineering, and climate change adaptation in water systems. Dr. Mahlknecht and his research team have made significant contributions in source identification and modeling of groundwater contaminants. He has received several prestigious distinctions, including the Dr.-Karl-Schleinzer Prize (Austria) and the Romulo Garza Prize (Mexico). He is a member of the Mexican National Researcher System (level 3), serves as Chief Editor for Groundwater for Sustainable Development (Q1), Associate Editor for Science of the Total Environment (STOTEN, Q1), and is Editorial Board Member for Environmental Pollution (Q1). For his achievements he is recognized as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) and member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences (AMC). He holds the position of President of the Mexican chapter of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (2023-2027).
