ROMERO ROMO, MARIO ALBERTO

He obtained his degree in Metallurgical Chemical Engineering from the Faculty of Chemistry at UNAM in 1970 and subsequently participated from 1970 to 1972, in the pilot Metallurgy Specialization program organized in six four-month sessions and sponsored by the Faculty Director, Dr. José Herrán. Subsequently, M Romero pursued postgraduate studies (Ph.D.) at the Department of Metallurgy and Materials Science, University of Liverpool, Great Britain, from 1973 to 1976, through a studentship grant initially to be financed by the student, but later condoned upon return to the country of origin. From 1976 onwards, he held the positions of 1) Junior Research Assistant and 2) Senior Research Assistant from 1976 to 1982 within the Heat and Thermochemical Treatments Research Group, under the direction of Dr. T. Bell (deceased). In 1983, he joined UAM-A in the Materials Science Area of ​​the Department of Materials, within the Division of Basic Sciences and Engineering (DCBI). He was a co-designer responsible for the curriculum and study programs of the Graduate Program in Science and Engineering (while serving as Deputy Graduate Coordinator). Subsequently, he was appointed Director of the DCBI (1997–2000). Early in his tenure, the three governing bodies of UAM approved the Graduate Program (at both Master’s and Doctoral levels) for the Division of Basic Sciences and Engineering (DCBI). He was later appointed Co-ordinator of the Materials Science and Engineering Postgraduate Studies Program (Master’s) in 2005. He was subsequently appointed Divisional Co-ordinator of Research and Postgraduate Studies. He received the UAM Research Award in 2007 and 2009 in the field of Basic Sciences and Engineering, granted by the Rector General of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana following a university-wide open call. He was a co-designer and co-founder of the Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Electrochemistry and Materials Engineering (LIEIM) within the Department of Materials at the Autonomous Metropolitan University, Azcapotzalco (UAM-A). Dr. Romero Romo serves as a full-time tenured faculty member and researcher in the Department of Materials at UAM-A and is a member of the core academic faculty of the Graduate Program. Presently Dr. Romero has been awarded the Distinguished Professor by the Academic College of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, and National Emeritus Researcher from the SECIHTI (Secretariat of Sciences, Engineering, Humanieties and Technology Innovation) of México.
