My research training during my Ph.D. and postdoctoral was carried out in the Cell Biology field and focused on the study of viral and cellular oncogenes and their role during cellular transformation. My research training included the use of Molecular Biology, biochemistry, and immunology methodologies that allowed me to characterize the processing of the Ras oncoprotein and the posttranslational modifications associated. Later on, I studied the role of the EGF receptor and the signal transduction pathway of Ha-Ras, and the transformation process associated with the activated Ras. As an independent researcher, I have been carrying out research in the field of cervical cancer associated with human papillomavirus infection (HPV). My research has been directed to two aspects: 1) the basic research looking for the cellular process of the E5 and E7 oncoproteins from HPV16, as well as their role in the transformation process; 2) the clinical part, looking at the serological antibody response as a source of biomarkers for the prediction and detection of women at risk to develop cervical cancer. I had graduated students at the undergraduate and postgraduate (MSc and Ph.D.) levels in the Cell Biology, Immunology, and Epidemiology fields.
