REYES VALLEJO, ODIN

Odín Reyes-Vallejo is a researcher in energy and environmental engineering specializing in sustainable materials for water treatment, environmental remediation, and solar energy conversion. His research focuses on the design, synthesis, and optimization of functional nanomaterials—particularly metal oxides, ferrites, graphene-based systems, and carbon/calcium-based materials derived from agro-industrial waste—for applications in photocatalysis, adsorption, advanced oxidation processes, photocatalytic hydrogen production, and CO₂ photoreduction.

He has extensive experience in the development of hybrid and heterostructured materials in both particulate and thin-film forms, using green and conventional synthesis routes such as combustion, microwave-assisted methods, sol–gel, hydrothermal/solvothermal synthesis, chemical bath deposition, sputtering, electrodeposition, spin coating, and controlled thermal treatments. His work integrates materials chemistry, surface/interface engineering, and photoelectrochemical approaches to address challenges in wastewater treatment, renewable energy generation, and environmental sensing.

Since 2021, he has been a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Cinvestav-IPN (Mexico), where he coordinates research activities in water treatment and solar fuels, supervises undergraduate and graduate students, and contributes to the development of functional coatings, prototype systems, and interdisciplinary research projects. He has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed research articles, several book chapters, indexed conference papers, and science outreach publications, and has built collaborations with academic and research institutions in Mexico and abroad.

Dr. Reyes-Vallejo currently serves as an Editorial Advisory Board Member of the Journal of Water Process Engineering (Elsevier) and as Section Editor of the Handbook of Nanomaterials and Nanocomposites for Energy and Environmental Applications (Springer Nature). His work combines sustainable materials design with practical engineering strategies for water purification, resource valorisation, renewable energy, and circular-economy solutions.
